The client is present in some twenty geographical locations in Switzerland. The telephony at these sites was aging; independent exchanges per site and on analogue and digital technology. In addition to standard telephones, there were DECT systems, fax machines, intercoms, door controls connected to the system. There is no integration between the telephone exchanges and the O365 tenant used by the customer.
The aim of the project is to replace this existing infrastructure with a 3CX solution VoIP . The important elements were :
- simplify the infrastructure in order to have a centralised management.
- to be able to use IP phones with centralized provisioning.
- to have a softphone application on the PC and on the smartphones.
- to be able to integrate the telephony server with the O365 tenant.
- to integrate faxes, intercoms, door controls.
During this project we supported our customer in the overall telephony concept for all these sites (~1400 users). We redefined a global dial plan and defined the network rules to secure the system and defined the DHCP rules for the provisioning of the IP phones.
We have set up a centralised virtual 3CX server with integration on the O365 tenant. This allows phone extensions to be linked to Azure users AD ; it also allows an address book to be built based on information from Azure AD and Outlook contacts. An IVR has also been defined for the main number. The 3CX server was connected to a SIP trunk at a telephone provider. The IP phones were automatically provisioned by the 3CX server and firmware updates are also deployed from the server.
ATA boxes, which are 3CX compatible, have been deployed to connect fax machines and other analogue components.
This migration enabled the customer to replace their outdated telephone exchanges with a solution VoIP. The 3CX solution is low cost, centralised and easy to manage. It has enabled the use of softphones on PCs and smartphones, both from the corporate network and from the Internet. This clearly facilitates the home office, especially in times of pandemics.
