Initial situation
Following the acquisition of the Swiss sites by another group, our client was tasked with migrating all of its data and user accounts from a Microsoft 365 based in France to an independent Microsoft tenant hosted in Switzerland.
The volume comprised migration approximately 500 mailboxes and OneDrive totaling more than 5 TB, as well as the migration of more than 700 accounts.
Goal
Our client wanted to engage the services of consultants with extensive experience cloud and infrastructure to implement the migration the following services cloud in a separate tenant:
The migration had to be completed quickly, without any data loss, and with minimal disruption to users’ work.
Concept
During this project, we assisted our client in setting up a new Active Directory data center, a new Microsoft tenant, and the implementation of user synchronization with AD Connect.
A detailed analysis of the outbuildings on the former tenant and the various elements to be taken over was carried out.
Once the prerequisites were in place, we proceeded to set up the various configurations and accounts on Azure AD and Microsoft 365 and began migration data migration to the new tenant using a third-party tool.
On the day migration users were migrated to the new tenant, we completed the migration data migration and modified the various records so that they point to the new location.
This last phase was carried out at the weekend in order to limit the impact on end users.
The next day, users were able to log on to the new tenant and retrieve all their data.
Result
This migration has enabled the client to have an environment tailored to its business and to no longer depend on the former infrastructure of the group it left.
During the resumption of services, we encountered several constraints and challenges, due in particular to our client’s complex environment and the numerous projects they had to carry out simultaneously; however, despite these challenges, the migration project was completed on time and to our client’s full satisfaction.
