Office 365 Name Changes: What Are the Implications for Swiss SMEs?
Do you know the difference between Microsoft 365 and Office 365 ? Originally, Office 365 was the name for Microsoft’s Office applications cloud (for example, Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and services (SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams) and Microsoft 365 was a collection comprising Office 365, Windows 10, and Enterprise Mobility and Security products.
However, Microsoft recently renamed some features, replacing " Office 365 " with " Microsoft 365"; for example, "Groups Office 365" will become "Groups Microsoft 365.” Even if you simply use “Office 365".
What are the concrete changes?
For users, these name changes which came into effect on 21 April 2020 had no real impact, it was simply a name change, with businesses continuing to benefit from the same applications for the same price.
If we go into a little more detail about these changes, we can see that this is a real restructuring of the Microsoft Offers.
Now that the term “Office” is no longer used, we should refer to them as applications Microsoft 365.
- Office 365 ProPlus is now called Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise—for large enterprises
- Office 365 Business thus becomes Microsoft 365 Apps for business – for small and medium-sized businesses
For now, business plans aren't really affected, since only the apps Office 365 have been renamed, and the Office 365 E1, E3, E5, F1, A1, A3, A5, G1, G3, and G5 are unaffected. But changes are expected to follow.

- Microsoft 365 Business Standard (formerlyOffice 365 Business Premium)
- The basic offer for all small businesses.
- Applications: web, mobile and desktop versions of Office software
- Services: OneDrive, Sharepoint Online, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Bookings
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium (formerlyMicrosoft 365 Business)
- The premium offering for small businesses looking for advanced security.
- Applications: web, mobile and desktop versions of Office software
- Services: OneDrive, Sharepoint Online, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Bookings
- Advanced Security: Windows Defender, Azure Information Protection
- Device management: IntuneWindows , and Virtual Desktop
