What is Operator Connect ?
With the growing popularity of hybrid workplaces and the expansion of Microsoft Teams, many organizations are looking for fast and efficient ways to connect their Microsoft Teams deployment to a PSTN (telephone carrier) to enable external phone communication. For example, they may want their employees to be able to add a participant to a Microsoft Teams meeting from a cell phone or a regular landline number.
For organizations interested in doing so, as described on our Microsoft Teams Phone Systems page, there are three different connectivity options PSTN . These are Microsoft Calling Plans, Microsoft Direct Routing and Microsoft Operator Connect. In this article, we’ll discuss the last of these options.
So, what is Operator Connect exactly?
Fast and easy PSTN connectivity for young customers
Operator Connect offers customers the ability to choose the carrier they want to use for their calls PSTN directly from the Microsoft Admin Center Teams. All they have to do is click the Carriers tab, where a list of qualified carriers appears, and select their preferred carrier. After that, the selected carrier contacts the customer and connects them to the service. At this point, the customer receives all the phone numbers they need for their users, or they can keep their existing numbers.
PSTN connectivity via Microsoft Teams Operator Connect offers several benefits for small business customers. These include the following:
- Simple connectivity—no telecommunications expertise is required to get started with Microsoft Teams calls.
- Customers can stay with their existing operators if they appear on the list, which creates an important sense of continuity.
- PSTN ’s calling services and infrastructure SBC are managed by the operators themselves, which significantly reduces costs.
In short, Operator Connect it’s a very easy way to choose a provider to work with. However, since the terms and conditions and pricing offered by different providers can vary significantly, it’s definitely worth taking the time to fully weigh the pros and cons of each one before committing to a particular provider. Additionally, integration with existing IP-PBX unified communications or contact center systems is not included, so the cost of that must also be taken into account.

What an article Can't Know
An article describes what applies to everyone. What varies from one organization to another is the inventory: which applications, which accounts, and which pieces of equipment are actually involved in your organization. The inventory determines the scope of the effort, and it cannot be summarized on a single page.
