Initial situation
The client is a company with 150 to 200 employees, which had several types of hardware: desktops, laptops, mini PCs and servers running different OS Windows Server 2008, 2012 and 2016.
It had no tools for managing operating systems, machine drivers or deploying Microsoft patches.
Goal
The customer wanted to be able to manage and list their laptops, desktops, servers as well as control and deploy software, antivirus and Microsoft patches from a single console.
In view of the customer's needs, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager ( SCCM ) was the obvious solution.
Concept
The first step was to install SCCM and all the roles needed to manage a fleet of about 250 devices.
The second step was to prepare a standardised Windows 10 image for the laptops and desktops, as well as the software required for the employees' weekly work.
Finally, it was necessary to create rules for automatic deployment of Windows patches for Windows 10 and Windows Servers.
These rules have been configured so that Microsoft patches are applied monthly, at a set day and time. This avoids deployment during standard office hours and therefore does not impact on employee productivity.
Result
Homogeneous fleet: The computer fleet is now homogeneous, with a single version of Windows 10.
Easy patch deployment: With automatic deployment of Microsoft patches, the client's laptops, desktops and servers are constantly kept up to date.
Simplified inventory: With SCCM it is now easier for the customer to list his assets (desktop, laptop, server etc..), but also the software used and their versions.
