SBC Integration in an existing VoIP/PBX environment
In our UC projects we often asked to leverage existing PBX or to ensure smooth transition to new UC environment. We should even say these scenarios are standard and a “big bang” migrations or Greenfield installations are rare. So how do we implement SBC with minimum disruption for end services? At the beginning there a traditional PBX connected let’s say by ISDN line to PSTN operator:
We would install SBC between PBX and Operator:
Note that no change of the configuration is required for PBX or Operator. Quite useful in case you have limited hardware supply for a very old PBX or if maintenance support is too extensive or simply absent. Once you pass this step you are free to move further: you may introduce smoothly a new UC system such as Skype for Business, two systems will co-exist and users from one system will be able to reach users from another system:
or change uplink to operator from legacy ISDN to modern SIP trunk:
If you are fully migrated to Skype for Business, you can disconnect and phase out PBX:
